Annual Health Reviews for Long Term Conditions

In order to even the workload out in the practice and to make it easier for patients to remember when their annual review is due, we are asking patients to book theor annual reviews in the month of their birthday. This applies to patients with the following long term conditions:

  • Asthma and COPD
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Kidney disease
  • Rheumatoid arthritis

We hope this is easier for patients to remember when their review is due. By smoothing out the workload over the year it should ensure sufficient appointments are available.

Blood Tests

Blood tests are taken by our Phlebotomist, by appointment only on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Please can we remind all patients that it is their responsibility to contact the practice to obtain blood test results at least two working days after the appointment. Patients who have an NHS Account or the NHS App will be able to view their own blood test results online if they were taken after 13th December 2022 so this will save a phone call into the practice. The practice does not receive the results of tests requested by hospital clinicians so please contact the hospital rather than the practice for these. Unfortunately due to the huge volume of blood tests that we undertake we cannot contact all patients with their results but we do follow up any urgent results with patients if they do not contact the practice.

Thank you for your cooperation with this.

MMR

The number of young people catching measles has risen.  It’s never too late to be vaccinated.  You need 2 doses of MMR one month apart to be fully protected against measles, mumps and rubella.  It’s time to make measles a disease of the past.

Symptoms include high fever; sore, red, watery eyes; coughing; aching and feeling generally unwell; a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms.

Measles is serious, if you think you’ve got measles call ahead and get advice before attending the surgery, a walk in centre or Accident & Emergency.  Measles, it’s not just a kid’s problem.

Contraception & Sexual Health

All our clinicians give advice on contraception and sexual health.  If you require emergency contraception please ask for an urgent appointment.

We offer both the contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) fitting and removal and coil fitting and removal. Please make an appointment with a Doctor to discuss this.

NHS Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. A free NHS Health Check can help reduce these risks and make sure you stay healthy. If you are aged 40-74 you are eligible for this check once every 5 years. Please contact our reception team on 01829 732401 - option 1 to arrange your appointment.

If you are outside this age range and are concerned about your health please arrange an appointment with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Following your check you will receive personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy.
