- Did you know that 1 in 8 people in Britain is a Carer?
- Are you one of them?
- Carers do not always recognise themselves as such.
Carers look after family, partners or friends because they have an illness, mental health problem, or are frail or elderly. A carer can be of any age.
If you are a carer or you know someone who is, please let us know so that we can inform you/them of relevant services and provide useful information.
Many more people are taking on caring responsibilities and there are services available to support you. Cheshire West Carer Support offers many free services if you’re looking after someone:
- They run a Helpline Monday-Friday 9-5pm where you can call for information support and advice. Their number is 0300 102 0008
- There is an Emergency Card service which helps you establish a contingency plan in the event of an emergency to ensure the person you support is cared for if need be.
- Funding called a Personal Budget is available to carers to allow you to take a break from your caring role. There is also an Essentials Fund available which can help to replace any broken down items in the home which are essential to your caring role, like washing machines and cookers.
Cheshire West Carer Support can also help with benefits and queries. They also run many support groups, events and activities around the region.
A young carer is a child or young person living with a parent or sibling with a disability and/or illness such as mental ill health, substance misuse or physical illness. Please visit Cheshire Young Carers website for help and advise.
